As Director of Automation and Robotics, act as the transformational advocate responsible for strategy and execution of robotic automation. Own the evolution and execution of both near and long-term strategies for robotic automation around key manufacturing processes and equipment. Responsible for understanding business' needs, industry's technical progression and guiding internal specifications and standards. As a key liaison between the product development teams and the factory operations & engineering teams, ensure that factory priorities/goals align across the business.
Advocate robotic efficiency improvements with Product Management and Product Development teams to align manufacturing resources with the multi-year development plan.
Provide input to program scopes with respect to capital equipment robotic automation, factory layout, manufacturing processes, and resources required to execute the projects.
Work across all product design teams in ensuring Design for Automated Assembly (DFAA) is considered on product designs.
Collaborate with Plant Manufacturing Engineering and Automation Engineering to coordinate key capital equipment projects requiring automated/robotic resources.
Utilize cross-functional participation to ensure that equipment and processes are compatible with the entire value stream. Efforts include right-sized equipment, workstation design, material presentation, standard work and single piece flow.
Manage and mentor automation engineering team members within the robot and controls organization. Duties include relevant human resource and development aspects, annual reviews, training, and career development of employees.
Participate in growing the automation engineering's manufacturing capability. This includes mentoring, guiding, and helping more junior team members as well as adding to the body of knowledge of the department (training, developing new manufacturing processes, etc).
Primary developer of strategy, architecture, and standards for fixed and mobile robotic equipment with the business' manufacturing environments.
Define, manage, and execute a Factory Automation Roadmap including developing priorities and opportunities to offset the supply vs demand of human capital.
Bachelors degree, preferably w/ an Engineering focus
10+ years in manufacturing environment
5+ years of management experience
7+ years in highly automated manufacturing environment
