We are seeking an experienced Process Specialist – Wet Lab for our Tissue facility location in Anderson, SC. This position will be responsible for setting up and performing laboratory/pilot plant trial studies, testing and evaluation of pulps and paper products including but not limited to: market hardwood /softwood chemical and mechanical pulps, non-wood and synthetic fibers, tissue, towels, napkins, and other related paper products. Testing requirements will range from chemical preparation, paper sheet formation, and physical testing on a wide variety of laboratory, pilot, and commercial equipment. The potential candidate should have hands on mechanical skills, be able to work in teams, and assist the lab manager to keep a clean and safe environment while insuring compliance with quality systems and regulatory requirements.
Primary responsibilities include:
Work with product development team members to assist with all lab needs such as evaluating new ideas, new products, current product/process issues, competitive products, customer complaints etc.,
Accountable for both wet lab and dry lab equipment maintenance and performance.
Responsible for making lab scale tissue/towel sheets utilizing lab scale equipment, such as dynamic sheet former, pilot scale tissue machine with TAD/Yankee dryer, etc.
Responsible for analyzing fiber and process samples, and tissue/towel sheets utilizing several analytical techniques such as FQA, Mutek and Zeta Potential instruments, optical microscope, Instron tensile and ball burst testers, GATS absorption analyzer, softness analyzer, FTIR, GC-MS, UV-Vis, ICP-MS, etc.
Collect and ship samples during trials, maintain a record of samples collected, samples submitted for testing, and a database to organize and track all test methods and results.
Manage in-house wet chemistry/biocide testing program.
Supports development of operating procedures/forms for all lab equipment and processes.
Assist lab manager in keeping all lab equipment and procedures updated including SDS file, safety manual and instrument calibrations.
Maintain a lab notebook with all data recorded with dated entries and appropriate signatures for intellectual property documentation purposes.
Observes all safety rules and uses the proper safety equipment at all times.
Maintain confidentiality of products and processes at all times.
The ideal candidate should possess the following:
Required Bachelors’ degree, with minimum 5-10 years of experience in a laboratory environment.
Pulp wet lab and/or paper lab experience highly desired; analytical lab experience a plus.
Good analytical/troubleshooting skills.
Should have strong work ethic and be a self-starter with minimal supervision.
Attention to detail required.
Focus on getting results in a timely manner.
Hands on mechanical/instrumentation skills desired.
Good computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft office applications such as Word and Excel.
