SC Department of Public Safety Mental Health Counselor in Beaufort County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities SCDMH is a drug-free workplace and all candidates will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test. AS OF JUNE 1, 2016 THIS IS A SMOKE FREE CAMPUS This position is located in Beaufort County under the direct supervision of the Program Director. Coastal Empire CMHC is an approved site of the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), which offers student loan repayment of up to $30,000.00 to employees of NHSC- approved sites. You must be a US Citizen, you must be licensed to practice independently in the state where you are hired and you must have unpaid government or commercial school loans. There is a two year service commitment required as well. Confirmation of qualifying for this loan repayment program is the responsibility of every applicant - we cannot guarantee your qualification. JOB DUTIES: Under limited supervision of the Area Coordinator of Adult Outpatient, provides recovery oriented services to a population with severe and persistent mental illness, in the Beaufort clinic and community; will work independently to provide a wide range of clinical services to also include crisis management; assessment of individuals for emergency hospitalization; serve as liaison to probate judge and law enforcement; and will make provisional diagnosis of dual diagnosis clients. Services for any monetary, housing, medication or other needs of clients; serves as liaison to probate judge, law enforcement, DSS, or other county organization; meets minimum benchmark for productivity requirements. Provides Recovery-oriented services such as Assessment, RPS, group/individual therapy, TCM, Crisis Management, and other services on an as-needed basis to an identified population of consumers with severe and persistent mental illnesses. In providing case management services, coordinates with local agencies, develops relationships with families and consumers, links consumers to primary care physicians, liaisons with in-patient facilities, and assists in development of discharge plans. Coordinates with other mental health center staff in planning and delivering these services. Attends Clinic staffings, meets periodically with supervisor(s) and staff psychiatrist as needed to monitor, evaluate and develop treatment goals; staffs daily if consumer is in crisis. Assists in developing and facilitating necessary housing, financial platforms and other resources to meet needs and preferences of consumers. Quality Assurance: Maintains client service records inaccordance with SCDMH QA standards; Adheres to DMH, Medicare, Medicaid andother Insurance regulations regarding documentation and billing of clinicalservices. Corporate Compliance: Demonstrates thorough understanding ofcorporate compliance issues and complies with all DMH and Center corporatecompliance requirements. Documents all contacts with consumers, families, significant others and agencies, according to all Quality Assurance Standards professional Development: Attends DMH sponsored professional trainings and CEU classes as required; identifies own areas of professional development and coordinates with Supervisor attendance at trainings to meet identified needs; Adheres to all DMH code of ethics and conduct; Performs job duties in a professional manner; Conducts self in a timely manner; Contributes to a positive work environment; Attends administrative staff meetings as scheduled by Supervisor. Clinical Development: Attends DMH sponsored clinical trainings and CEU classes as required; Adheres to all DMH code of ethics, and standards regarding confidentiality and treatment of clients; attends, participates, and contributes in clinical staffings with supervisor and psychiatrists; Identifies own areas of clinical development and coordinates with Supervisor attendance at trainings to meet identified needs; Demonstrates improvement in clinical skills over time and/or adoption of new skill set; Maintains positive attitude and disposition regarding own clinical development. Minimum and Additional Requirements STATE REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree and professional experience in human services or social services program. AGENCY REQUIREMENTS: *Master's degree in guidance, counseling or the social sciences; 1 year of experience in a clinical counseling program; and state licensed or licensed eligible.
