Job Summary/Purpose : The Department of Surgery, Division of General Surgery, is currently recruiting for an Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA). Under the direction of General, Acute Care Surgery and Trauma Surgeons, the Advanced Practice Provider will increase continuity of care of all surgery and trauma service patients in the Surgical Trauma Intensive Care Unit (STICU).
Minimum Training and Education: Currently licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of SC or licensed as a Physician Assistant by the National Board of Medical Examiners or the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Requires certification in Basic Life Support.
Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: Currently eligible or licensed as an Advanced Practice Nurse in the state of SC or Licensed (or certification eligible) as a Physician Assistant by the National Board of Medical Examiners or the American Academy of Physician Assistants. Requires certification in Basic Life Support.
Nurse Practitioner: BSN, MN, or MSN and official recognition as an Advanced Practice RN by the Board of Nursing for South Carolina. The applicant should be licensed as a Registered Nurse and hold official recognition as a Nurse Practitioner from the SC Board of Nursing. Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Strongly Preferred.
Physician Assistant: Graduate of a Physician Assistant training program approved by the Council of Medical Education of the American Medical Association. The applicant must be eligible for PA certification by the National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants, Licensed by the South Carolina Board of Medical Examiners.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Advanced Practice Provider will provide patient assessment and treatment in the intensive care unit, performing bedside procedures (including central lines, bronchoscopy, tracheostomy, gastrostomy tube placement, and ultrasound guided drainage procedures; helping to coordinate care with external services; monitor adherence to STICU patient guidelines; assist with resident orientation, transfer notes, and participate actively in general surgery, intensive care unit, burn, and trauma center performance improvement. 80%
The Advanced Practice Provider will actively participate in the care of patients on the floor of the Division of General Surgery. These patients include elective general surgery patients, trauma patients, and emergency general surgery patients. 20%
Physical Requirements: Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standing, walking and sitting. Ability to bend at the waist, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, fully use both hands and legs, possess good finger dexterity, perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders, reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected, see and recognize objects close at hand and at a distance, work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs (+/-) unassisted, exert up to 50 lbs of force, lift from 36” to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
