Medical University of South Carolina UNIV - AA50 - Patient Service Representative - Dental Faculty Practice in Charleston, South Carolina

FLSA: Hourly

Job Summary: The patient services representative independently performs a variety of advanced administrative duties involved in the operation of a dental faculty practice office within the College of Dental Medicine.

Job Duties:

  • 30% - Check patients in, update all patient demographics at each visit. Verify insurance coverage online or by phone for patients prior to each visit. Enter all New Patient demographics into axiUm ensuring accuracy. Send all New Patient information via email or regular mail prior to first appointment. Acquire and update necessary signatures for all consent forms. Provide Health History to update when necessary, manage DFP On Call List for DFP Providers by sending email to remind of their coverage for the week - (Essential)

  • 30% - Must check patients out, collecting all monies due at that time of check-out. Post all payments in patient ledger in axiUm and provide patient with receipt and any insurance forms needed. Discuss upcoming treatment and financial responsibilities for future appointments and provide a printed appointment reminder to each patient. Must enter transaction notes in axiUm documenting any relevant financial conversations and all posting errors, refunds, etc. Scan all necessary documents in axiUm attachments. - (Essential)

  • 25% - Schedule all patient appointments for DFP's 20+ faculty providers. Answer all phone calls with courtesy and direct patients needing dental care. Maintain schedule by filling canceled appointments as necessary to keep the schedule full for providers and hygienists. Call patients to remind of upcoming dental appointments and reschedule appointments when necessary. Document all patient correspondence in Contact Notes. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Reconcile and make daily deposits of cash, check and credit card transactions following University and CDM guidelines. Obtain certification in Care Credit for patient payment plan options and follow guidelines for obtaining necessary documentation required for processing transactions. Stay current with new updates and procedures regarding patient payment options. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Maintain reception area and waiting area in a neat, orderly fashion. Responsible for management of supply inventory for front desk areas. Responsible for security of telephones, patient records, computers, patient payments, etc. - (Essential)

  • 5% - Keep the Dental Faculty Practice Manager informed of problems and activities and assist with any other various duties as requested by the Dental Faculty Practice Manager - (Essential)
