SC Department of Public Safety Forestry Technician II/LE Officer in Colleton County, South Carolina
Performs wildland fire control planning and suppression duties. Recruits, trains, supervises, and evaluates personnel under your supervision. Completes EPMS on all employees under your supervision. Assists with forest management activities. Conducts law enforcement. Performs administrative duties and ensure that preventive maintenance goals are met. Provides technical assistance to local governments on forestry issues. Be aware of state and local issues affecting forestry. Works cooperatively with local governments to promote forestry and sound forestry practices. Participates in allied forestry organizations' activities. Performs wildland fire prevention work. Participates in the SCFC Physical Fitness Standard for fireline employees as outlined in Chapter 2538 of the SCFC Procedure Manual.
Minimum and Additional Requirements
A high school diploma and one (1) year experience in forest fire control, law enforcement, forestry management or nursery operations. An associate degree in forestry or natural resources may be substituted for the required work experience. Commercial driver's license (CDL) is required within 90 working days of employment. Written CDL permit is required prior to employment. Must pass initial physical fitness test that requires a two (2) mile walk carrying a 25 lb. pack in 30 minutes. Firefighter registration with the State Fire Marshal's Office, criminal records check and drug test required. Ability to obtain a Class I law enforcement certification within one (1) year of employment.
Eligibility to be selected for this position is contingent upon the successful applicant being at least 21 years of age, a U.S. citizen, satisfactory completion of a background check, and physical and psychological examinations as in compliance with the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy (SCCJA).
