Typically Reports To Supervisor or Manager

Position Summary Abstracts inpatient, outpatient, clinic, and physician practice medical record documentation to select and sequence appropriate ICD9, HCPCS, and CPT4 codes. Adheres to coding compliance guidelines for assignment of complete, accurate, timely and consistent codes for diagnoses and procedures to include final DRG assignment.



Minimum Requirements Associate's degree in related field with five(5) years' experience OR equivalent training/certification required.

Driver's License Required Valid driver's license, an acceptable three-year motor vehicle record as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart, and a certificate of auto insurance.

Licenses/Certifications/Registrations Requires one of the following certifications; AAPC, CCS-P, RHIT, or RHIA.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Successful completion of an AAPC or AHIMA approved coding program. Must be able to perform keyboard operations. Must be able to see the source document and CRT screen. Must have problem-solving abilities; good knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease process, evaluation and treatment; expert knowledge of ICD,CPT-4 coding assignment required. Expert knowledge of CCI and AMA coding guidelines.

Physical Demands: regularly stand, walk, sit, reach with hands or arms, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, and hear.
