Position Title: Sr. Buyer - Process Solutions

Reports to: Director, Supply Chain

Location: Columbia, SC

Job Summary:

Responsible for the procurement of direct & indirect materials through the development and implementation of strategic sourcing practices to achieve the best on-time deliveries, service and total cost of ownership. Additional areas of responsibility include the creation and facilitation of manufacturing schedules to optimize external & internal customer service levels and inventory turns.

Job Duties:

  • Responsible for all tactical aspects of direct & indirect material purchase orders through the use of the company’s ERP system, internal customer requisitions or other areas as assigned. Includes the arrangement of logistics and supervision of offsite inventory, ordering materials in a build-to-stock environment and the life cycle management of their assigned product families.

  • Serves as the company’s liaison with suppliers to build effective relationships, gather data on product & market trends and negotiation interactions. Leads contract negotiations to deliver the best total cost of ownership to the organization.

  • Tracks market trends through government & third party indices, supplier network, professional journals and other sources to effectively advise pricing trends to developing contractual strategies and share within the organization.

  • Completes numerous segment cost reduction projects per year through RFQs, online auctions, improved order processes, supplier negotiations and other strategic practices.

  • Regularly leads the business supply base segmentation analysis and other supply risk mitigation practices to limit company’s procurement exposure, determine areas for alternate sources and supply agreements as required.

  • Leader who works with other team members within the department and company to train supply chain planning, procurement and ERP system best practices. Occasionally fills in for the Director of Supply Chain on business projects, assignments and meetings.

  • Leader in business’s SIOP process to balance supply & demand requirements to satisfy external & internal customer needs while optimizing the organization’s inventory levels.

  • Reports weekly on Supply Chain Department’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).

  • Continually develops personal expertise in the supply chain function and ERP system knowledge to drive process improvements and share with peers & co-workers.

  • Support new product launches for the supply chain attributes to achieve timely and successful introductions.

  • Create, implement and monitor supply chain KPI’s to drive process improvements.

  • Discuss defective or unacceptable new goods or services with users, vendors and others to determine cause of problem and take corrective and preventative actions.

  • The ability to read and understand documents and perform mathematical calculations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.

  • Progressive procurement knowledge with a minimum 3 years of experience of strategic sourcing best practices & agreement writing required.

  • Proficient skills with a minimum 5 years of tactical purchasing & planning in a manufacturing make-to-stock business environment required within an integrated ERP system.

  • Expertise in ERP systems supply chain parameter configuration, troubleshooting, analytics, working knowledge of manufacturing concepts such as world class manufacturing and manufacturing standardization & simplification of a minimum of 5 years of experience is required.

  • Institute for Supply Management (ISM) C.P.M., CPSM® or CPSM® and The Association for Operations Management (APICS) CPIM, CSCP or CFPIM professional certifications are preferred.
