Wyman-Gordon, located in Dillon South Carolina, is a major industrial manufacturer serving a wide range of industries including aerospace, power generation, and industrial businesses. Wyman-Gordon Dillon is a 200,000 sq. ft. heat treat facility for large aerospace and energy parts, a testing facility for performing non-destructive tests on machines aerospace parts, and a machining plant to machine critical aerospace parts. The machining plant will grow substantially as it is rolled out over the next five years. In addition, a 50,000 sq. ft. building will house our sonic inspection operations. Surface Inspector (NDT) Level 1 & 2
Position responsible for inspecting forgings for defects using Dye Penetrant, Fluorescent Penetrant, Magnetic Particle and Macro Etch inspection methods.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Operate non-destructive test equipment for inspecting of forgings.
Perform non-destructive testing to ascertain that forgings or materials meet specification, working to established procedures and / or process sheets.
Magnetic Particle Inspection – Set up and operate magnaflux units for magnetic particle inspection. Prepare part for magnetization, induce current as prescribed, spray fluorescent suspension while current is on and visually inspect surface for defects, marking indications of defects for later evaluation. Demagnetize part after inspection.
Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection – Process forgings through the preparation procedures and visually inspect with ultraviolet lamp for surface defects.
Liquid Penetrant Inspection – Apply penetrant, remove with cleaner, apply developer and visually inspect for surface defects.
Macro Etch Inspection – Etch and inspect raw material and forgings in accordance with established procedures.
Perform operational testing on equipment, solutions used, etc. to ensure that all are up to specifications.
Maintain logs and other records, indicating dates, methods, formulas, identification data, test results or other pertinent information.
Qualify for required certification in non-destructive testing.
Perform similar or related duties as required.
Requires 1 ½ to 2 ½ years of on-the-job training or equivalent.
Working knowledge of shop math and have thorough understanding of layout procedures.
Must be able to perform surface inspection on the most complex forgings.
Must have completed surface courses required.
Must pass Military, NAV Ships and customer test requirements for certification in the following: Dye Penetrant, Fluorescent Penetrant, Magnetic Particle and Macro Etch Inspection.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Quality focused and strong attention to detail.
Requires considerable judgment to set up and operate surface inspection equipment and to properly interpret and evaluate results.
Requires making decisions on accepting forgings in which this is the last quality control inspection for defects.
US Citizenship or Perm Residency is required due to government military contracts.
