SC Department of Public Safety Registered Nurse I / Immunizations / Summerville / Hourly in Dorchester County, South Carolina

Provide seasonal influenza immunization services to students of Lowcountry Region School Districts and communities.

Prepares and establishes site/station for vaccine administrations; arrange for an adequate supply of vaccine at site; assures "cold chain" is maintained

Quickly reviews the vaccine's and pertinent health history for completeness. Assures appropriate and adequate documentation on all required forms and fields on each forms. Documents in SIMON, as needed, administration of vaccinations.

Under supervision of Team Leader administers vaccine to eligible recipients according to standing orders, observes for immediate reactions/complications; informs vaccinee of potential side effects and what to do in the event of adverse reactions, responds appropriately in emergency situations. Documents on patient record per DHEC protocol.

Store and inventory immunizations as appropriate following program guidelines and procedures.

Dismantles stations; repacks remaining supplies conveniently for next clinic and assists with site clean up. Submits all paperwork to appropriate person.

Complete PCAS, SCEIS, travel and time sheets at appropriate intervals during the year. Participates in required trainings, scheduled meetings, and debriefings. May be required to participate in emergency or major disaster to expedite services to the public as outlined in DHEC/District/County plans.

Other Duties: responds to other duties as assigned. Minimum and Additional Requirements

*State Minimum Requirements: *Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing. Some positions require a valid driver's license and/or certification in Basic Life Support.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

Agency Additional Requirements: * *Associate Degree in Nursing and current licensure as a Registered Nurse by the state Board of Nursing for South Carolina or a compact state.

Knowledge and skill in the techniques and practices of the nursing profession. Knowledge and skill in public health sciences. Ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care. Ability to prepare and provide health teaching and counseling. Ability to apply Continuous Quality Improvement concepts to practice. Ability to apply judgement while adhering to standing orders, policies, procedures and laws governing nurses. Ability to interact in a culturally competent and professional manner. Knowledge of community resource.

Must be able to lift 30 lbs. Must have a current driver license or ability to obtain transportation. May be required to use personal vehicle. Employee may be required to work weekday, evening, or weekend clinics and to participate in community outreach activities. Employee will be required to work indoors and outdoors. Must travel to different clinics across the region.

Preferred Qualifications

Prefer one year of nursing experience.

Additional Comments

All new employees who are healthcare providers are required to provide documentation of immunity or be immunized against measles, mumps, rubella, pertussis, Varicella and Hepatitis B prior to beginning employment.

In accordance with the State's Disaster Plan, which includes hazardous weather, DHEC employees may be required to work in times of an emergency or disaster.
