U.S. Army Sustainment Command Traffic Management Specialist in Goose Creek, South Carolina

Summary

About the Position: Traffic Management Specialist and the Designated Transportation Officer for U.S. Army Strategic Logistics Activity Charleston. Participates in establishing, planning, managing, overseeing, and execution of the overall traffic management program for prepositioned afloat materiel. Develops, analyzes, advises, and implements transportation policy and procedures for handling, packaging, documenting and moving Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS) worldwide by surface and air.

Responsibilities

Conduct traffic studies and advise leadership on transportation matters affecting the command.

Establish and develop practical methods in performing traffic operations and maintaining responsive transportation data to enhance traffic management efficiency, and maximize economy of operations.

Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of ASLAC's transportation program and assess compliance with applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and sound management practices.

Monitor programs having command interest in which close attention of transportation performance is required.

Classify all domestic and export shipments moving commercially by air, water, rail and motor vehicle.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes managing or participating in managing a transportation or traffic program involving (1) operating a transport or traffic system to move passengers or commodities of an organization when there is accountability for operating costs, (2) operating a transportation system to provide common carrier types of services to shippers, and (3) procuring common or other carriers and other transportation services to move an organization's personnel, freight, and/or other commodities. (Incumbent must have surface and air transportation experience). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11 or above). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. Two year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct deposit of pay is required. This position requires you to submit a Public Financial Disclosure Report (OGE 278) or a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE450) upon entry, and annually thereafter. Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. This is a Career Program (CP) 24 - Transportation and Distribution Management position. You may claim military spouse preference (MSP). If a MSP applicant is determined best qualified and selected, placement must be at the full performance level for priority consideration. Multiple positions may be filled from this announcement. Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
