The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for accurately and efficiently performing laboratory skills and position responsibilities as defined by individual job specific expectations. Communication, computer, and organizational skills are necessary. All functions and performed in accordance with established St. Francis Health System and Laboratory policies and procedures. The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible to have a comprehensive understanding of the theory of all methodologies within their scope of service, assess client needs, proactively participate in the implementation of improvement measures, verify test methods and ensure validity of testing to include patient preparation, pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of testing and test results reporting.
The Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform various duties of laboratory medicine commensurate with specialties and subspecialties that are performed within area of primary assignment, recognizing and resolving technical problems and ensuring test systems and processes are functioning properly before reporting patient test results. Individual will exhibit professionalism, while serving as an engaged and productive team player for their work group and organization. Individual will assist Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist eligible, Medical Laboratory Technician, and Medical Laboratory Technician eligible staff in critical decisions related to patient testing non-conformances and resolution of those non-conformances prior to releasing patient test results.
Schedule is dependent on patient and laboratory need. Candidate will work a predetermined schedule. Should the need arise the candidate may be requested to work additional hours or a shift other than the shift generally assigned. During times of low census the candidate may be required to flex hours to accommodate productivity targets.
Laboratory and Corporate Compliance, as outlined by the OIG and CMS, is an important aspect of our laboratory's environment. Each employee is expected to be knowledgeable of, and behave in accordance with the Laboratory and Hospital System Compliance Plans. All functions should be performed and administered in compliance with CAP, AABB, JCAHO, DHEC, CMS, OSHA and any other applicable accreditation or regulatory agency.
Bachelors Degree in a biological, chemical science from an accredited program.
Meet the CLIA-88 requirements for waived, moderate, or high complexity testing, as appropriate.
Previous experience performing laboratory testing in a clinical setting to include those tests classed as waived, moderate, or high complexity preferred.
Candidate must be certified by the American Association of Clinical Pathologists Medical Technologist/Medical Laboratory Scientist examination or an equivalent nationally recognized certifying agency.
Candidate must maintain certification and provide current documentation of certification.
