SC Department of Public Safety Program Coordinator I - SC Fire Academy in Horry County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Provides customer service and support for local fire and emergency service organizations with planning, coordinating, scheduling, delivering, and evaluating a variety of training courses and programs. Assists the Regional Supervisor and other Regional offices with the planning, training, certification, and documentation of SCFA instructors. Supervises and schedules regionally assigned instructors and/or staff to teach training courses and programs. Completes certifications, recertifications, evaluations, and observations of instructors and/or staff as required. Evaluates the effectiveness of programs and instructors in classroom and field environments, including live fire environments and other hazardous environments that require the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Surveys and accesses fire and emergency services training needs and trends by attending regional association meetings, department training sessions, and other meetings or related functions while positively representing the Division and SCFA. Provides feedback to SCFA leadership on fire and emergency services training needs. Serves as a lead instructor teaching, conducting, and evaluating SCF A courses including, but not limited to, new instructor orientations, course orientations, and fire service classes, which requires wearing PPE or the use of a Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA), entering bum buildings with smoke present, fighting live fires on training props (both in and outside), raising and lowering ladders, climbing ladders, and/or moving equipment that averages 100 lbs. Assists in the setup of fire equipment and props as required. Participates in strategic planning teams and project groups, as assigned, with SCFA staff and local departments. Responds to emergency scenes as a member of the State Fire CLEAR Team to investigate, research, and collect data regarding the circumstances and factors contributing to a fire-related death or significant community loss. May deploy to significant emergency events as part of the State Urban Search and Rescue Team or State Fire Incident Support Team. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree and relevant program experience.

Must be able to work nights, weekends, and/or holidays in inclement weather and in hazardous environments. Overnight travel and the ability to drive a state vehicle. Ability to climb a ladder, lift objects over 100 pounds, wear PPE, and work within IDLH environments.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 2 years’ experience or Associate's degree and 4 years’ experience in fire prevention, fire protection, and/or training. A combination of education, relevant training, and experience may be considered as substitution for a bachelor's degree upon approval by the Division of State Human Resources. An acceptable motor vehicle record (MVR) that complies with state fleet guidelines
