Medical University of South Carolina UNIV- Associate Professor and Medical Director of GRTC- Department of Radiation Oncology in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina
Job Summary: The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), College of Medicine, Department of Radiation Oncology is seeking a full-time radiation oncologist to work at Georgetown Radiation Therapy Center, a satellite facility located in beautiful Murrells Inlet, SC. The clinic moved to this new facility two years ago from its original Georgetown location due to rapid growth and development in Murrells Inlet and the entire Grand Strand area. The center is a strategic partnership between the local hospital system, Tidelands Health, and the Medical University of South Carolina. Whereas the primary role is to be the medical director and lead physician at this center, he/she is expected be integrated into the overall programs of the Medical University of South Carolina and the Hollings Cancer Center, an NCI-designated cancer center. The physician is expected to carry faculty rank based on experience and would have the opportunity to participate in clinical trials, resident education, and multidisciplinary patient care. The satellite center is an American College of Radiology-accredited center and is fully independent technologically, with a Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, CT-simulator, ARIA oncology EMR, Eclipse treatment planning system, and a high-dose-rate brachytherapy unit. Staffing includes full-time onsite nursing, dosimetry, and physics. The center is installing a second, new TrueBeam that is expected to be operational in fall of 2020. An additional radiation oncologist is also being recruited to join the practice when both linear accelerators are up and running.
The MUSC flagship campus in Charleston, SC, has additional treatment modalities and technical expertise to fully support the practice in Murrells Inlet. The Charleston campus and nearby Mt. Pleasant satellite host three Varian TrueBeam accelerators, a GammaKnife unit, and a Tomotherapy unit as well as two CT/Simulators, multiple treatment planning platforms, and strong LDR and HDR brachytherapy programs. The Department supports an ACGME-accredited residency program for physicians and a CAMPEP-accredited residency program for physicists. The physician would be afforded the opportunities for career advancement.
Surrounded by Huntington Beach State Park and Litchfield Beach to the south, and Surfside Beach and Myrtle Beach to the north, Murrells Inlet is a beach-lover’s paradise. With the Waccamaw river and National Wildlife Refuge bordering to the west and multiple golf courses in between, ample outdoor activities are just outside your door. Located 1.5 hours north of Charleston, the Grand Strand area is one of the fastest growing regions of the country.
