SC Department of Public Safety Classification Coordinator - INTERNAL ONLY in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Classification Administrator and coordinates the juvenile classification system within the agency. Serves as Chairperson of the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Initial Quarterly, and Status reviews) for routine reviews of progress, dorm/unit reassignment and custody and placement recommendations. Maintains the Classification database and knowledgeable of the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJ) Management System. Establishes and maintains active juvenile institutional records. Responds orally and/or through written correspondence to inquire in regards to the juvenile custody and assignment as appropriate and within legal requirements. Responds to juveniles' requests for classification services on a consistent basis. Attends and participates in dorm meeting and meeting with other disciplines such as PbS. Provides case management services. Performs other related duties as required or needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice or a Human Services related field, and 3 years of experience with working with adolescents.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred: Masters Degree

Must possess thorough knowledge of the SC Juvenile Justice Process and knowledge of overall functioning of the juvenile penal system; ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; establishes and maintains proper and effective working relationships with juveniles and employees of other agencies. Have knowledge and understanding of court orders and other legal documentation. Must understand and work within the guidelines of the agency's policies and procedures. Must work with other disciplines on recommendations that impact juveniles' life. Responsible for identifying and taking initiatives in determining problems that should be referred to and/or reviewed by the supervisor. This position performs job duties relating to the custody, control, transportation, or recapture of juveniles within the jurisdiction of the department of juvenile justice, and the employee may have direct and indirect contact with juveniles within the jurisdiction of the department of juvenile justice. Training applicable to these duties will be provided.
