This position is located with the Bureau of Healthcare Planning and Construction.

To ensure that licensed facilities and services comply with adopted regulations codes and standards that provide for the health, safety and well-being of their clients. To evaluate evidence and conduct investigations on behalf of the Department. To maintain effective working relationships with the facility, associates, law officers, judicial personnel, professional and nonprofessional individuals and the general public. To analyze complex situations, determine pertinent facts, reach reasonable conclusions and propose solutions. Schedules licensure inspections based on current Division criteria. Evaluates licensed facilities, activities and services and identifies conditions out of compliance with fire and life safety standards. Conducts inquiries and investigations resulting from complaints about activities in a thorough, unbiased and timely manner.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

*State Minimum Requirements: * A high school diploma and experience conducting investigations or performing other law enforcement duties. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

*Agency Additional Requirements: * A bachelor's degree in the natural or physical sciences, engineering, building construction, business or health care administration: or an associate's degree in fire science, building construction or engineering technology and three (3) years of related experience; or high school diploma and five(5) years of fire service related experience. Employee must have a SC Certified Fire Marshal or successfully complete the ICC Fire Inspector I Course within one(1) year of employment. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and travel to facilities requiring Fire & Life Safety inspections and communicate effectively and accurately with facility administration as noncompliant issues are discovered. Must be able to become knowledgeable using computer software programs as well as being able to understand information contained in a database program. Must have a working knowledge of Federal and State regulations, International Building and Fire Codes and other codes and standards as adopted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Preferred Qualifications

Current SC Certified Fire Marshal or ICC Fire Investigator I with a minimum five (5) years' experience of Federal and State regulations, International Building and Fire Codes, and other codes and standards as adopted by the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Additional Comments

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
