SC Department of Public Safety Trades Specialist IV - Painter/Craftsman in Richland County, South Carolina

Job Responsibilities

Under limited supervision, perform the skilled duties in various building and construction maintenance trades with an emphasis on painting. Will be required to perform work at State Park Campus, Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) Camp Burnt Gin, and other work at DHEC Central Office locations deemed essential by the Facilities Director for DHEC Operations. Provides on call services to State Park Maintenance on a rotational assignment.

Performs as the painter/craftsman for buildings at State Park. Constructs, repairs, and finishes walls, ceilings (both hard ceilings and suspended), installs windows, doors and frames to buildings at State Park and other DHEC occupied buildings as needed statewide. Operates mid-sized tractors, loader/backhoe, and other miscellaneous grounds maintenance equipment. Performs preventative maintenance of grounds equipment as needed. Works independently or with other staff in the maintenance of grounds, roads, trees, shrubs on both State Park and Camp Burnt Gin as needed and other DHEC occupied buildings as requested. Works independently or in a team environment and must be able to get along with other tradesmen. Applies good judgement and initiative when making job related decisions. Installs, repairs and maintains plumbing equipment and fixtures, supply lines, discharge piping, valves and fittings as needed.Performs other duties as required. Is part of the DHEC Emergency Response team as needed.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

*State Minimum Requirements: *A high school diploma and trade experience that is directly related to the area of employment.

Institutions of Higher Learning must be recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation.

*Agency Additional Requirements: *Agency Minimum Requirements: Valid State driver's license; minimum of five (5) years painting experience. Ability to lift 50 pounds; ability to successfully climb and descend ladders. Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of safety practices relevant to the area of building maintenance. Ability to work with metal studs, finish drywall, read blueprints. Working knowledge of the selection, use and application of various types of paints and finishes along with experience using and maintaining equipment associated with the painting trade . Has thorough knowledge on operating various hand and power tools.

DRIVING RECORD: If this position requires the applicant to possess a valid driver's license to operate a state vehicle or personal vehicle, any applicant being considered in the final stages of selection for the position will be required to provide a certified copy of a 10-year driving record.
