American Credit Acceptance Instructional Designer in Spartanburg, South Carolina

As an Instructional Designer for ACA, you will design, develop, and maintain a variety training programs for eLearning and classroom use. You will collaborate with internal subject matter experts to design comprehensive curriculum that will meet the educational needs of ACA associates. This will include creating new materials and updating existing training materials as needed with a strong initial focus on compliance and operational training.

The right candidate will be a strong curriculum writer, course designer, and multimedia developer with experience designing and developing in various training platforms. They will be highly effective at making complicated topics sound simple. They should thrive on quickly learning new products and technologies with minimal direction, and have a passion for translating that knowledge into engaging learning experiences. The right candidate will have proven expertise in identifying the right style of delivery and level of content for various user audiences and have a track record of using instructional design best practices and technical skills to create training solutions that increase job success.

  • Use professional eLearning/classroom authoring software to assist with creating and updating training curriculum, videos, e-learning modules, supplemental learning materials, etc.

  • Contribute to the development of training material associated with compliance release notes, new features, and other such advances to our multi-level compliance needs and associate development.

  • Design, develop, deploy, and maintain effective online/classroom training programs to meet departmental needs.

  • Perform needs and task analysis, scope projects, and constantly evaluate the most appropriate training approach and content to meet the learning needs of each departmental audiences and services.

  • Seek to continuously improve training and help curriculum to reflect ever-changing user personas and market needs.

  • Collaborate with other associate and leadership members to provide a technical infrastructure for developing and delivering consistent training and help solutions across the brand supporting their departments.

  • Manage multiple deliverables at once—without forfeiting quality and timelines. This requires effective project management skills including successful risk mitigation.

  • Select the most appropriate instructional multimedia and write effective copies, texts, audio and video scripts. This requires thorough multimedia knowledge.

  • Focus on the expected outcomes, based on the audience’s prior skills, experience, expectations and needs, and design a course based on the available technology, budget and time.

  • Create effective and fair assessments that foster the learners’ development by providing opportunities to demonstrate their mastery of the learning goals.

  • Conduct thorough research using solid analytical skills and synthesize information from multiple sources.

  • In cooperation with SMEs and team members, create training content that can be used and applied in the real business situations.

  • Continually evaluate procedures to monitor and analyze course effectiveness and update curriculum as needed.

  • Document procedures for ACA’s corporate training department.

  • Document and coordinate activities for instructor led and virtual instructor led events.

  • Coordinate testing, feedback, and certificates of completion for eLearning and instructor led training.

  • Manage third party software and relationships/processes (registration, LMS, testing, etc.) as instructed.

  • Conduct needs assessments as required, regarding all compliance related training for internal associates at all levels.


  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Excellent written, visual, listening, and verbal communication skills

  • The ability to create measurable objectives, based on the audience’s needs. This requires the successful identification of the learners’ general characteristics.

  • Understanding of and ability to apply adult learning principles, best practices, and methodologies

  • The ability to be flexible and a resourceful problem solver, able to tackle with any kind of setback or obstacle.

  • Well-developed business acumen

  • Experienced in classroom delivery.


  • 1-2 years’ experience in developing and maintaining complex compliance and technical training course curriculums.

  • 1+ years’ experience developing eLearning modules using tools such as, Adobe Captivate, Articulate Storyline, or equivalent.

  • Excellent communication, writing, and editing skills for the purpose of knowledge transfer and skill development, including effectively explaining technical topics to novice or non-technical audiences.

  • Proven ability to manage projects, identify risks, and deliver exceptional quality work—on time.

  • Track record of innovation in developing training solutions with a portfolio of projects for various audiences.

  • BA/BS in Training, Communications, Instructional Design, Technical Writing, Multimedia Design, related discipline, or equivalent.

  • Proficient in the use of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • Adobe Captivate

  • Camtasia

  • Other learning authoring tools a plus

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Manage and support all aspects of Cornerstone Learning Management System.

  • Video and audio recording and editing

Supervisory Responsibility:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:

This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and e-faxing.

  • Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.

  • Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office

  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds.

  • Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.

  • Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.

  • Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.

  • Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position with a work schedule of Monday-Friday with some schedule variations as needed.


This position will require up to 15% travel to other offices as needed.
